The ACW Youth Advisory Board
December 19 Outcomes
Carlos O and Tiger W are still interested in traveling to Washington DC. Adrianna also expressed interest. It was re-emphasized that Barbara will advise the steps needed to achieve this goal. The students themselves need to take the actions listed below.
Carols O and Tiger W are aspiring politicians. They would like to investigate the pathway to office by traveling to Washing DC to meet with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. We also recommend you reach out to Minneapolis congresswoman Andrea Jenkins. Here contacts are all here. http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/ward8/about-andrea
Action plan for moving forward. These are my suggestions to START. If you are serious about this project.
1.Join the Minnesota Youth Alliance. https://mnyouth.net/minnesota-youth-council/
2.Research Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez . Write a summary paragraph. What inspired you? Ideas for connecting with her? Ideas for your pathway to becoming a political player. Basics: American politician, educator, and political activist. On June 26, 2018, Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic primary in New York’s 14th congressional district. Born: October 13, 1989 (age 29 years).
3. Alexandria does a nightly Instagram. Start following her: https://www.instagram.com/ocasio2018/?hl=en make comments.
4. Join her movement: https://ocasio2018.com/splash
5.Write her a fan letter us@ocasio2018.com
Going Forward
Write an article about how she inspired you to start a Youth Advisory Board focused on community engagement for Art to Change the World. press@ocasio2018.com
Call and say you want to get a degree in political science and would like to visit Alexandria and DC . Do they have ideas where you could go for funding to support that trip? (929) 388-6141
Jose A is interested in local community action, immigration fears, the seeming mythology that if the black and brown people get more of the cake, those currently enjoying most of the cake will have less cake. Jose suggested the metaphor needs to be to make a bigger cake. He would like to pursue funding support to create an art work to illustrate this simple but powerful solution. We discussed finding 3 other people and reaching out to a gallery to stage a small See. Say. Do. type event. First Step. Choose the three people. Theater? Exhibition? Travel to schools?
December 12 Outcomes:
Two Projects Identified
Action plan for moving forward.
Think about creating an acronym which grabs attention and is memorable. Think about what we could use for a logo. I would like you to create the logo. We can pay you a small stipend.

I would like to suggest we go for the MRAC Arts learning Grant. It is due Feb 4 which is totally doable. Take a look at this, Jose. Create an account. (Save the password!) https://mrac.org/grants/arts-learning/ Look at the questions. Once you have written up a response to one grant request, you can use that same narrative to apply for other money. On December 19, bring a one page proposal with your ideas. Look at the examples they give. It will help you flesh out your ideas. Do not be discouraged. We will help you write the first one. Then you will know howto do it by yourself! Reach out to the other students you mentioned. This is where it gets real. I will help you but this needs to be YOUR ideas first. Not mine.
