SUMMARY:Opening Reception @ Homewood Studios
DESCRIPTION:Homewood Studios\nEntertainment/recreation: distraction\, pastime\, pleasure\, gratification\, relaxation\nthe alteration\, digression\, turning\, variation\nChanging course: departure\, detour\, deviation\,\nDiversion: Definitions and synonyms \nLaura DuFrane Murphey\, Judith Jopp\, John Stumme\, Debra Ripp\, Linda Snoufffer\, and Shirl Chouinard \nJune 3-25    Opening Reception – Friday\, June 3\, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm \nGallery/Artists’ Talk – Tuesday\, June 21 beginning at 7 pm \n\n2400 Plymouth Ave N\, Minneapolis\, MN 55411 \nTo open our summer season of shows\, we offer an enticing and diverse group of artists who\, after meeting each other in a class taught by artist Deborah Foutch\, have continued to work with\, encourage and support each other for several years.  One of the groups\, Laura DuFrane Murphy\, is one of our resident studio artists.\nAbout their work\, they write: \nOur individual visual art is diverse—we all have different visions even at times when we use similar mediums or explore similar subjects. Through these years\, we have grown in our abilities\, sometimes altered artistic direction\, or just learned to explore new ideas as we shared our creative process with one another. \nThis exhibit celebrates our long-term connection with one another. These works illustrate how art was a diversion from the pandemic stresses as we retreated into studios to work alone. Some of us focused on adhering to the artistic paths on which we began; others deviated into a new artistic direction. We all have been fed by the creative force and continue to honor our connection to it and to one another.

DESCRIPTION:Club Critique June 27 \nJoin Barbara Bridges @ 2323 Monroe St NE\, Minneapolis\, 6:00 PM.\nMaine Seafood Chowdah will be served. \nElements and Principles\, Meaning and the Message\, and Cultural Appropriation will be discussed. \nYou can Still Join Club Critique: Details and Members:  https://www.arttochangetheworld.org/gritique-minutes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Rogers Bridges has been an artist and a teacher/college professor for over 40 years. Her social practice sculptures have been exhibited in Maine\, Miami\, the Virgin Islands\, Maryland\, Chicago\, Mexico\, Spain\, Canada\, and throughout Minnesota. Bridges taught K-12 art in Minnesota\, Maine\, and the Virgin Islands and trained teachers in higher education at the University of Minnesota and Bemidji State University. \nBarbara creates social practice art from fabricated components in a variety of media and rescued “power objects.” She manipulates the objects to create meaning and provoke discussions and reflection on a wide variety of social topics. \nShe is an intervenor. Cambridge-educated philosopher\, Tim Ingold\, holds a unique theory on art-making. Dr. Ingold suggests that artists are simply interveners on any particular materials and/or objects the artist manipulates.  Any object already has a story\, the artist simply recombines these objects to create a new narrative. \n  \nBarbara is the founder and director of Art to Change the World.    Read More   Please contact Barbara if you would like to buy any of her art  drb@bridgescreate.com\nArtwork:  How to Lose a Democracy\n\nRead More:  https://www.arttochangetheworld.org/barbara-bridges

SUMMARY:Owen Brown @ Sabes Center
DESCRIPTION:Owen Brown will be showing a quadriptych\, “Often I am Permitted to Return to a Meadow\,” at the Sabes Center \nThe opening is June 30th\, 7 to 9\, and the show will be on for over a month.  \n4330 S. Cedar Lake Road\nMinneapolis\, MN 55416 \nThe current Hebrew year\, 5782\, is a Shmita year. Shmita means “release” in Hebrew and refers to the seventh year in a seven-year cycle (like the seven-day cycle culminating in Shabbat). According to the Torah\, during the seventh year\, God commands us to let the land rest\, release debts\, resolve disputes\, and open our hands and hearts to those in need. The Shmita Project asks us to consider how do we bring this tradition alive in an era when we no longer rely on the rhythms and harvest of our fields to survive. Featuring submissions to Hazon’s Shmita Project\, this multimedia exhibit showcases artwork from all over the country with related programming that will engage the community with the art and provide opportunities to gain their own personal insights about shmita.   Read More:  https://www.sabesjcc.org/about/jcc-collaboration/
