SUMMARY:Anton Treuer: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:In The Cultural Toolbox: Traditional Ojibwe Living in the Modern World\, Anton Treuer tells stories of one Ojibwe family’s hunting\, gathering\, harvesting\, and cultural ways and beliefs–without violating protected secrets. Following the four seasons of the year and the four seasons of life\, this intimate view of the Ojibwe world reflects a relatable\, modern\, richly experienced connection to the rest of the planet. It also opens up a new way of understanding these living traditions\, which carry thousands of years of cultural knowledge still in the making.\n\n\n\nToday’s Ojibwe people have–against all odds–maintained a dazzling array of deep\, beautiful\, adaptive ways of connecting to the spiritual\, natural\, and human beings around them. Variations in Ojibwe cultural practices are\, of course\, as diverse as their homelands\, which stretch across the Great Lakes\, Canadian shield\, pine forests\, and prairie potholes of four US states and three Canadian provinces. And Ojibwe culture\, like every other culture\, has changed over time. But these variations and changes have always followed a distinct path\, reflecting an identifiably Ojibwe worldview. While the world around\, in\, and connected to Ojibwe spaces continues to envelop myriad cultures and peoples\, the Ojibwe have found a way to stay recognizable to their ancestors. \nDate: Wed.\, Dec 8\, 2021\, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm\nLocation: Mill City Museum\, 704 S. 2nd St.\, Minneapolis\, MN 55407\nContact: 612-341-7582\, mcm@mnhs.org\nCost: Free

SUMMARY:Blood on the Pavement Submissions Due
DESCRIPTION:“Blood on The Pavement” is seeking local Twin Cities artists! Scheduled to open May 2022\, the exhibit will focus on addressing violence against black bodies\, both verbally and physically\, from micro aggressions to police brutality. The exhibit will also explore violence against women’s bodies and those identifying as women\, as well as other intersections of identity. \n“Blood On The Pavement” is open to 2D or 3D works from artists of all backgrounds\, but will give priority to voices from BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. \nEach artist will receive $100 to participate and 100% of the proceeds \, if sold. \nArtists will create work reacting to poems written by the organizer and project manager\, Ashley Richardson. Please note there is no “correct” interpretation of the poems. The organizer is simply looking for artists to create pieces that express the feelings and thoughts inspired by her words. \nHOW TO SUBMIT \nPlease email questions or submissions to Ashley Richardson at richardson.exhibits@gmail.com. Submissions should include: \n* Name\, address\, email\, phone\, websites\, social media platforms\, etc. \n*  Three to four samples of your work (JPEG Format) \n* A brief statement of interest\, including a few sentences about your approach as an artist and the works submitted\, as well as your reason for wanting to contribute to the exhibit. \nDeadline: Dec 12\, 2021 \n“Blood on the Pavement” is supported by ACW’s Coaching Project for A Better World.
