SUMMARY:TRIAL BY GENDER Book Signing and Author Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Come to a book signing and conversation with Freya Ottem Hanson\, author of the novel TRIAL BY GENDER (released in 2025). The novelist will discuss themes in the novel as exemplified in the challenges of the main character\, Carmen Jamison\, a female attorney who struggles against odds to succeed in a male-dominated profession. The novel takes place in the 1970’s\, a time of change and discrimination\, but one woman defies the odds and challenges the status quo. TRIAL BY GENDER tells a story of resilience and determination\, transporting readers to a world where equality is fragile and prejudice pervades society. The author will have books available or participants may order the novel from Amazon ahead of the gathering.

SUMMARY:ASL for Small Business Owners in the Art World Salon @ HQ
DESCRIPTION:Come learn basic ASL skills and small talk conversation on Monday\, July 20\, 2026\, from 7 – 9 pm at ACW HQ. \nThe Twin Cities are a Deaf Hub because the states that touch us have very limited resources for the Deaf community.  If you haven’t already\, you will encounter Deaf customers looking at your art/crafts.  Knowing the basics on how to interact with them and learning some basic small talk conversation will help you make sales or at least help our Deaf neighbors feel seen and appreciated. \nThis class will teach you how to appropriately interact with the Deaf community\, teach you basic conversation\, fingerspelling\, numbers\, and the vocabulary for making sales.  There will be props and role playing for learning tools along with paper handouts to study later.  No videotaping or pets allowed.  All needed materials will be provided.  Active participation is required! \nPlease contact Denise Lau with any questions and to RSVP at MNdreamArt@gmail.com so I know how many handouts to make and how many props to bring.  Thank you!
