SUMMARY:Forgotten Beacons - Jayson Randall @ Larson Gallery (Opening)
DESCRIPTION:Artist: Jayson Randall\nEvent: Solo Exhibition – “Forgotten Beacons”\, The Artwork of Jayson Randall\nDate/Time: August 26 thru September 24\, 2021\nLocation: University of Minnesota – Larson Gallery\nEvent Link: https://www.jaysonrandall.com/events.html\nEvent Description: In-person – free admission\nTitle of Artwork Displayed: This is a solo exhibition.\nThe artwork of Jayson Randall will be displayed throughout the gallery. \nArtwork Description:\n“When I close my eyes\, I see bright colors.”\nThrough Jayson Randall’s brilliant interplay of light and shadow in art\, Forgotten Beacons illustrates the relationship between the useful and forgotten. \nLike a beacon in the dark\, his work expresses how discarded items call out as they are encountered by the viewer.\nHe preserves stories and gives new life to those forgotten through the use of interactive technology in his art. \nIndustrial materials are combined with interactive electronics as the viewer is engaged to participate in the functionality of the finished artwork. \nJayson Randall is an award-winning experimental artist who currently resides in Minneapolis\, Minnesota. \nAs a recipient of the Director’s Award at the WHAM West Gallery in Surprise\, Arizona\, and the Best in Show Award at the Re-Purpose Competition and Exhibition in Clear Lake\, Iowa\, Randall designs and builds complex works of art that fuse technology with illusion. \nWhether creating interactive electronic sculptures\, making innovative films or attempting a novel method of painting\, his work bridges the gap between art and science. \nArtist Link: https://www.jaysonrandall.com

SUMMARY: Structure + Connection - Reception
DESCRIPTION:Structure + Connection \nEncaustic Artwork by Jodi Reeb and Dietlind Vander Schaaf \nJune 26 – September 4\, 2021 \nArtist Reception: Saturday\, June 26\, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. \n(MINNEAPOLIS\, MINNESOTA) Practicing within the same natural medium\, encaustic or beeswax\, with a visual language inspired by nature’s forms\, gallery artist\, Jodi Reeb\, and guest artist\, Dietlind Vander Schaaf of Portland\, Maine\, depart from each other and the traditions of encaustic painting in new work presented in Structure + Connection at Kolman & Pryor Gallery. Curated by Reeb and gallery co-founder and curator\, Patrick Pryor\, the exhibition opens Saturday evening\, June 26\, 2021\, with an artist reception from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The exhibition closes September 4\, 2021. \n“Jodi is evolving into quite a force in the encaustic community as she’s bridging the gap between sculpture and painting in her new work\,” Pryor says. “Dietland’s work is highly sought after and extremely popular with collectors. We’re thrilled to pair them in this show\, in which each one’s work not only complements the other’s but together their artwork demonstrates the versatility and breadth of the encaustic medium.” \nVander Schaaf describes herself as “very much a painter. I paint in a sculptural way\, in that I build up thick layers of encaustic\, then carve into those layers\, often with repetitive\, distinctive mark making\, to add further texture and sculptural dimension to the work.” \nA teacher and practitioner of such contemplative practices as yoga and meditation\, Vander Schaaf says her paintings are “abstracted landscapes\, as well as inner landscapes where the inner and outer world meet to describe a felt experience of the world.” She hopes viewers and collectors will find quietness and calm in her work. \nReeb’s organic wall sculptures oscillate between painting and sculpture. Her circular pieces\, referencing the spheres within nature\, often overlap creating a negative space also found in many of her aluminum wall sculptures. In these sculptures\, she paints with enamel and encaustic (beeswax and damar resin) on primed aluminum\, then bends and twists the metal into dramatically textured organic forms. Reeb’s intention with her sculptural series is to investigate a folding\, opening\, and evolving as a reflection of her new approach to encaustic artwork. \n“We’re both challenging the physical properties of translucence and structure using encaustic\,” Reeb explains. “At the same time\, we’re drawn to ideas of layering inspired by natural forms where the paintings are deconstructed as well as abstracted to create structure and connection.” \nThe artists will be teaching an encaustic workshop at the gallery on Friday and Saturday\, June 25 and 26\, 2021\, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $350. Please get in touch with Jodi Reeb at jodi@kolmanpryorgallery.com or at 612-247-1244 for more information. \nFor a preview of the show\, please contact Anita Sue Kolman at anita@kolmanpryorgallery.com or 612-385-4239 or Patrick Pryor at patrick@kolmanpryorgallery.com or 612-280-7812. \n—————– \n       Structure + Connection begins Saturday\, June 26\, 2021\, and closes Saturday\, September 4\, 2021. \nArtist Reception: Saturday\, June 26\, 2021\, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. \nKolman & Pryor Gallery is located in Studio 395\, Northrup King Building at 1500 Jackson Street NE\, Minneapolis\, MN 55413. SUMMARY:Inside-Out at Homewood Studios Opening
DESCRIPTION:Homewood Studios Covid year window show series\, Inside-Out\, presentation for June \nWHAT IF…? \nMarion Angelica \nJUNE 1-30\, 2021 \nMarion writes: In regard to my studio work\, my favorite phrase is “What if….?”  It leads me to explore and pushes me to try new ideas and new techniques.  I often start with a simple idea or inspiration but by repeatedly asking “what if….” I find new avenues and new variations that take me along exciting paths.  This phrase continually drives me to try new directions.  The work in each of the three window sections at Homewood Studios reflects three different directions I have been exploring in the past two years. \n“Sidewalk Opening” Saturday\, June 12th from 2pm to 4pm.  (Rain day\, Sunday\, June 13th same hours)  Walk up and meet the artist.  Marion will be present for conversation\, to answer question\, to hear about your responses to her work. \nNote: Pleases see our website – www.homewoodstudios.com – about road construction and parking limitations. \n

SUMMARY:Pre Film Discussion on Truth\, Healing and Reconciliation with Anton Treuer\, Wesley May\, Sarah Edstrom and others. Pay What You Can from $0-$25
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nBusting Down the Silos\nWant to have an authentic conversation with someone outside your socio-cultural silo?  Come to non-profit Art to Change the World’s See. Say. Do historical trauma event with a hot dish and an open heart and mind. \nDr. Anton Treuer professor\, writer and lecturer\, who was heavily featured in the Dodging Bullets documentary film\, will lead a Truth\, Healing and Reconciliation discussion  (5:00-6:30) focused on historical trauma with  Wesley May (Red Lake) and   Sarah Edstrom . \nDr. Anton Treuer holds degrees from Princeton University and the University of Minnesota\, is Professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University\, is the father of nine children and author of 14 books. His equity\, education\, and cultural work has put him on a path of service around the region\, the nation\, and the world. https://antontreuer.com/upcoming-events \nThe discussion event will include a community hot dish meal and will feature Thought Leaders Michael Goze from the American Indian Community Development Corporation; Judge Jim Randall\, retired Minnesota Court of Appeals judge; Steve Barberio\, Executive Director of Bet Shalom temple; Herman Milligan\, African American managing partner of the Fulton Group; members of the Hmong community and others. \nThis is NOT a panel discussion.  What is a Thought Leader? Our goal is to rip down the silos and have an authentic conversation. The discussions will follow Wesley May’s workshop on Identity\, which will be presented from 1:00-5:00 pm on October 13. The community event will continue from 5:00-6:30 with Dodging Bullets starting at 7:00.   Our programming on October 13th promises to be a day filled with richness and meaning\, breaking down the silos – and will challenge our preconceptions. Our goal is to  identify PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS to move forward together. \n6:30 Identity mural auctioned for the benefit of ACW.  Installation at the location of your choice. \n____________________________________________________________ \n7:00-10:00 PM   \nDodging Bullets    The film was voted Minnesota’s Best Documentary at the 2018 Mpls/St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF). The film speaks to our mission of moving people to ACTION using art. Filmmaker and director\, Sarah Edstrom will join us. (The film was co-directed by Kathy Broere\, Bob Trench and Jonathan Thunder). This award winning\, powerful documentary is the first to chronicle the impact of historical trauma on the lives of Native peoples today\, giving voice to their stories of survival and resilience in the face of multigenerational trauma.    The film is a collection of experiences that includes a majority of Native voices\, along with activists\, legislators\, and researchers\, to illustrate the effects of intergenerational trauma and to help forge a path towards the future. What is clear throughout the film – and these stories – is a defining message: If a true healing of the wounds done to Native communities is to be achieved\, the trauma cannot be ignored.  http://dodgingbullets.org/in-the-news/ \nAbout Dodging Bullets
