With one of the goals being to educate people about the plastics we find on our waterways\, they repurposed objects with a history to create a new narrative. Paper was made by Alexis from the debris collected. The quilted seat was commissioned from ACW quiltmaker\, Lucy Schroepfer out of fabric found along the river. John Olson\, from River Keepers\, helped us forage on the west side of the river in his electric pontoon. The project participants met eight times in September and October. \nOpen all 21 drawers! Take a memento and research card or two. Sit on the throne\, meditate and snap a photo. Post on Facebook\, Instagram\, or TikTok using #ArtToChangeTheWorld and #MississippiRiverPearl. Send us that photo! Leave us your impressions in the survey drawer for a chance to win an ACW t-shirt.\nRead about the project:  https://www.arttochangetheworld.org/mississippi-watershed-management-organization-project \nMill City Times features  MWMO water project and ACW Director\, Barbara Bridges. \nhttp://millcitytimes.com/news/changemaker-barbara-bridges-founder-and-director-art-to-chan.html?fbclid=IwAR2Z7Ije-bDPUC6U_D4OBLdECZ9Ht-FS-tO16nr-dHlMNj8mXzAafAHNWMQ \nSee the TikTok Video created by Amáda Márquez Simula\nhttps://www.instagram.com/p/CkHn3xzA82m/ \nRead More about the project: https://www.arttochangetheworld.org/mississippi-management-and-watershed-project

SUMMARY:Don Luce & Ruth Talen Erickson @ Homewood Studios - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:December Gallery Show\nHomewood Studios 2400 Plymouth Ave N\, Minneapolis\, MN 55411\nDon Luce & Ruth Talen Erickson: Painting & Pottery\nDecember 2-23\nOpening Reception – Friday\, December 2 from 5 pm to 8 pm\nGallery Talk – Tuesday\, December 13 beginning at 7 pm \nOur final show of 2022 has long been in the works. Ruth Erickson is a long-time friend of Homewood Studios. Planning for this show began well before Covid put everything on pause\, and we thank both Ruth and Don for their patience. From our point of view\, and we anticipate from that of studio viewers as well\, the wait will be worth it. \nAbout his work\, Don writes: I strive to stimulate people’s curiosity of nature\, deepen their understanding of how nature works and inspire a commitment to protect the natural world. I use painting and drawing to reveal the ecological processes that underlie the landscape and to capture the sense of energy and excitement I feel while exploring nature. \n \nAnd about her work\, Ruth writes: \nThe Japanese concept of “Mengei -the appreciation of the handmade in everyday life”\, has guided my work for over 50 years as a potter. What matters to me when expressing my love of clay is the hope that my pottery is part of your daily life and brings you joy and beauty.

SUMMARY:Bill Cottman - "I am Here" - Homewood Studios Show (Opening Reception)
DESCRIPTION:JANUARY HOMEWOOD GALLERY SHOW \nBILL COTTMAN: I Am Here\nCurated by Seitu Jones\, George Slade\, Davu Seru\, Miko Simmons & Beverly Cottman \nJanuary 6 through 31.  Opening Reception: Friday\, January 6th from 5 pm to 8 pm \n\nHomewood Studios\, 2400 Plymouth Avenue \nKFAI-FM Remote Broadcast from the Galley: Saturday\, January 7 from 9 am to 11 am\nIn-person &/or call-in memories and stories about Bill hosted by Kenna Cottman (Bill’s daughter) and Yonci Peaceful Jameson (Bill’s granddaughter) \nGallery Talk with curators: Tuesday\, January 17. beginning at 7 pm (How this show came together; what we were trying to do. ) \nThe passing\, all too soon\, of Bill Cottman\, one of our community’s most active\, connected\, and important artists\, a little more than a year ago\, has left us all pulsing with memories and believing he is still with us in so many ways.  Thus\, our gallery show to remember him as a photographer\, video artist\, writer\, poet\, and bookmaker. \nTo do his lifetime of work justice\, we would have to hire a huge hall.  Instead\, we have at Beverly Cottman’s suggestion\, invited four artist friends of Bill and Beverly to curate a show touching on several aspects of Bill’s artistic life.  The show includes many of his photographs and photo series\, (of course)\, video work\, his various published books\, and ephemera collected by the curators.  Like all of Bill’s shows in our gallery over the past twenty years\, it will be unpredictable\, surprising\, informative\, revelatory\, and professionally superb. \nIn addition\, anyone with a good Bill Cottman story or memory is invited to attend our gallery in person or call in during the Mostly Jazz program on KFAI-FM\, Saturday\, January 7th from 9 am to 11 am.\n612 587-0230\, www.homewoodstudios.com

SUMMARY:Inspired By Claudette & Rosa (Opening Night)
DESCRIPTION:By Laura Mann-Hill\nACW Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator \nI hope you can join me in lifting up the voices of youth in the upcoming performance of the play I wrote. We have a cast of amazing youth performers. The play is based on real-life experiences I had working with Twin Cities youth over the past two years. \nInspired by Claudette and Rosa  \nSonia and some of her classmates struggle navigating issues of race in their everyday life. After learning about Civil Rights Activists Rosa Parks and Claudette Colvin\, Sonia is inspired to take a stand in her own life and move them to action. In 1955\, nine months before Rosa Parks became known as a civil rights icon\, 15-year-old Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat on a racially segregated bus in Montgomery\, Alabama. Claudette’s story of resistance and her relationship with Rosa reveals the role she played in sparking a movement for racial justice. \nThe show runs February 10-February 26\, 2023.
